St Andrew’s Day

These two churchmice have been chewing the fatty cheese together for some time now.   They have kept company with many people on their travels around the world, especially those who are looking for some spiritual enlightenment that might shed light on what that journey is all about.   Frequently they muse on their journeys, meeting people in religious institutions as well as those free-floating explorers who have never been a part of organized faith.   The mice who intrigue them most are usually those who can feel at home in the traditional institutions, but have enough sense of adventure to gnaw their way out of the box knowing that there are some surprising discoveries to be made out there.   In conventional terms, that must be what theological experts mean when they talk about the missio Dei, about the divine being at work in the world.

So why have we started this blog on St Andrew’s Day, November 30 2008?  Well, for a start because we’re based in Scotland, where St Andrew is the national saint, so it seemed a kind of obvious thing to do.  But this year St Andrews Day is also the first Sunday of Advent, which must only happen very infrequently.  The two things combine our passions.  So this blog will be about dreaming dreams, imagining visions, and speculating on what might be if the Christian message is to be authentically contextualized in the culture we know best – which, of course, is not narrowly Scottish, or British, or even western, because we also all live in a global village.  Which is another reason for publishing our mousy musings here.
